Welcome to Catherine Stone Acupuncture and Massage.

I offer a range of acupuncture and massage treatments in North London.

I have been a massage therapist since 2011 and practise sports and remedial massage, manual lymphatic drainage (Vodder technique), pregnancy massage, Thai massage and more recently, tui na (Chinese massage).  I have worked in a wide variety of settings, including therapy rooms in central London, corporate and charity venues, but am now based at home in north London.  I treat a wide variety of people and conditions.

In 2022, I gained a BSc in Acupuncture, which has greatly enriched my understanding of physical and emotional health, both of which Chinese Medicine is particularly capable of seeing as inextricably linked.  In addition to acupuncture, I use other techniques such as moxa, cupping, gua sha, tui na  and auricular (ear) acupuncture (see links on this website for more information).  Having many ‘tools’ to choose from makes me even more equipped to help you when it comes to your treatment plan.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

Acupuncture is used for many different reasons, but fundamentally:

  • It has a grounding in centuries of Chinese Medicine wisdom and sees the link between the mind and the body, and our relationship with nature.  It is not just a physical therapy, it is a profound energy medicine.
  • The Five Element aspect of Chinese Medicine gives it a particularly holistic approach that aims to get to the root of the presenting complaints.  It is a very useful system of interpreting our physical and emotional imbalances.

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage has numerous benefits for the body and the mind, as more and more scientific studies indicate.  Even if you do not have any particular aches or pains, treatment will help to relax and refresh your body.

Many believe that massage can help with the following:

  • Alleviation of muscle tension, which can be manifested in tightness or nodules (knots)
  • By stimulating circulation of blood, nutrients, oxygen and lymph, it is argued that the systems of the body are encouraged to work more effectively
  • Improvement of posture, aided by addressing muscle imbalance, assisted stretches and strengthening exercises, and homecare advice
  • Reduces stress levels potentially due to its effects on the autonomic nervous system and blood pressure.
  • Release of the feel-good hormones, endorphins
  • Improvement in the range of motion in joints – e.g. by releasing adhesions and mobilizing the joints

As someone who take his sport and exercise very seriously, finding a good massage therapist is very important to me. After more than two decades in London and numerous therapists, I can say without hesitation that Catherine is quite simply the best. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Catherine is brilliant. Friendly and professional. Always manages to fit me in and does the best massages! Catherine tailors the massage to the occasion, finding the bits that need work rather than just doing the same thing regardless of what she finds. Great at neck massages too which I have found previous masseurs often weren't good at. Catherine has also advised on stretches that may help too. Thoroughly recommended.

Catherine is just great. I’ve been going to her for nearly a year now, and I always leave feeling so much better than at the beginning of our session. She has a deep knowledge across a range of massages. She’s very versatile, and receptive to how you’re feeling that particular day and what you might need. Couldn’t recommend her enough.

Catherine is friendly and a fantastic therapist! I've had both regular massages and now the pregnancy massage and Catherine never fails to deliver: pain relief and best night of sleep guaranteed after a massage. She is knowledgeable, listen to your concerns and address them putting extra attention in areas of discomfort. I have a really bad low back/hips and she is the only one I trust massaging these areas. I'm such a fan that I can't hear someone complaining of muscular/ back pain without recommending her!
